Palace Block Party

The Palace Block Party Centennial Celebration was the Palace Theater’s annual year-end party. However, since this was the theater’s 100 year anniversary since it first opened, the Palace staff decided to throw a new type of event: an outdoor street party with the road in front of the building closed to traffic. For six hours partygoers could dance to live music, play outdoor games, enjoy local beers and spirits, before finishing the night with a laser light show.

I was tasked with coming up with the name and logo for the event. The logo would be used for advertising in print ads, online banners, billboards, emails, and posters as well as day-of environmental uses including signage, table wraps, and digital monitors.

Logo Design

Brief: To design a logo that ties together the celebratory mood of the annual party with the 100 year anniversary of the theater.

Solution: A custom blocky font in bright colors overlapped with a more luxurious script. The blocks created for the font reiterate that the theater is shutting down the block for the party. Then within BLOCK, the LOC has been transformed into a subtle “100” letterform highlighted by a contrasting color. Within PARTY is a hidden laser beam, since the evening’s finale is a laser light show. The blue and yellow colors were chosen to represent an early summer evening when the event took place.

The poster design places the logo on a blue gradient-mapped image of the theater’s exterior on East Main Street. Lasers overlaid at the top further highlight the event’s finale.
