CT Runners’ Hangout

CT Runners’ Hangout is Facebook group for runners, where members discuss running and non-running related topics. All members of the running group are affiliated with one or more of the state’s official running groups. The “Hangout” was created as an outlet for members to post about things that may not fit the running-related-only rules of the official groups. The group also hosts a weekly beer run at Kinsmen Brewing Co. in Milldale, CT.

As a graphic designer and a runner in the group, I was commissioned to design a logo for the group to be used on social media, stickers, and apparel.

Connecticut Runners' Hangout Logo

Brief: To design a logo that incorporates the group name and reflects the mission of the group: bringing runners together to have fun and reach goals.

Solution: A wordmark logo over an outline of the state of Connecticut. The colors black, yellow and white represent the road, over which many miles have been run. Yellow is also the color for a majority of beers. The dashed line after Connecticut symbolizes road markings as well as connecting runners from across the state. All are welcome to the meetups.

The font is a modified version of Chaloops. The letters are bold, jubilant, and loud (just like runners). In HANGOUT, the H joins the A and the N hugs the G in a friendly manner, depicting giving a fist bump and wrapping your arm around a fellow runner. The O is replaced by the logo’s icon: a line drawing of a runner’s hand (notice the activity tracking watch) raising a toast with a full pint of beer. The cheers is an act of celebration; recognizing the hard work that your fellow athletes have displayed in achieving their goals. Kudos!
